Located in the shadows of Dhauladar Hills, blessed by Baba Baijnath (Lord Shiva) and situated at the bank of Binva khud, Paprola village is proud of its Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College.The college came into existence in the year 1972 by the name of Him Ayurvedic College as a private institution under the supervision of Vaid Hakim Parishad of Himachal Pradesh by the efforts of Vaid Jagan Nath Sharma. At that time it was affiliated with Punjab faculty Chandigarh. 

Latest Activities

  •  As regular classes of all P.G. and U.G. students have begun and hospital is also working at its full capacity, everyone is advised to observe Covid appropriate behavior.

Samhita, Sanskrit and Sidhanta

Introduction

            The Department of Basic Principles Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College, Paprola, was upgraded to Post graduate level in 2004 when M.D. (Ayu.) in Samhita Department with the central grant in aid. Four scholar were admitted in M.D. (Samhita) that year and since then every year four scholars (2 from state of H.P. and 2 from all India) are admitted in the specialty of Samhita Siddhant. Till now 14 batches have been passed out from this department.

            The department has seven (7) sanctioned teaching posts (Professor -1, Readers-3, Sr. Lecturer -1, Lecturer-2). Presently five posts are filled ( Professor -1      Reader -1( Ayurveda),  Lecturer-1 (Ayurveda)   lecturer -1 (Sanskrit).  

            All the teachers are Post graduates.

            The working of department of P.G. Level can be classified under following headings:

1.         Academic activities

2.         Clinical activities

3.         Research activities

4.         Other activities

1. Academic Activities :-

            The academic activities of department consist of regular class room teaching, quiz contest for B.A.M.S. and M.D. Samhita & Siddhanta classes as well as seminars, Group discussions. Beside this the department organizes regular seminars; regular academic and group discussion is an important field of activity of department. It is mandatory for every student to attend 75% lectures delivered to appear in final university examination. Samhita-Siddhant scholars are given a chance to work with the hospital. Students of post graduation classes are given encouragement to attend various national level conferences, seminars and work shops. Teachers of faculty are also invited to various academic seminars conferences and seminars of national level as expert and as keynote speakers in ROTP  for teachers in various institutions.

            Teaching of undergraduate and P.G. classes is broad based and is based on with Samhita (ancient texts) with view of modern era.

2. Clinical activity :-

            Department of basic principles is allotted  two OPDs, Saiddhantik Chikitsa – 2 days & skin OPD 6 days in a week which are jointly managed by consultants and scholars. The deptt. is imparting specialized services to the patients of Twak Vikaras(skin diseases).

Derma lab & skin care unit is established by the Department.

3. Research Activities :-

            Research project is an important component of M.D. Samhita & Siddhanta 2nd year and 3rd year. The department has completed twenty seven research projects which are part of M.D. Samhita & Siddhanta thesis. The details of these research projects are attached. The eight research projects for M.D.2nd and 3rd year are in progress.

            During the last years teachers and students of department have been invited to various conferences, camp seminars and workshops for presentation of their scientific work. One Re-orientation Training Programme For Teachers of Basic Principles was organized in this Institute in 2011 under financial sponsorship of Govt. of India & Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidhyapeeth,New Delhi in which P.G. Department of Basic Principles participated actively and played a role in making it a success. The research papers based on research project undertaken by department are under view and some of them are sent for publications with various reputed magazines.The research work of M.D. Final year scholars are presented before the institutional faculty, P.G. scholars as a Pre-Thesis seminar of Ayurvedic College.

4. Other activities :-

            The Department of Basic Principles assigns the compilation work on different topics to under graduates, Recitation of shalokas and samhita-patha and quiz competition. Department of basic principles is engaged in teaching of 1st prof. 2nd prof. and 3rd prof B.A.M.S. as well as P.G. Courses. With continued pattern of Govt. and hard work of faculty, department hopes to achieve the desired goal of being the premier department. Department is also engaged in the teaching of B. Pharmacy (Ayurveda) at Jogindranagar (College of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical sciences, Jogindranagar).
